Sofia the First Surprise Slides Game is a game published by Wonder Forge. It is for 2-4 players. In this game, players will be trying to be the first to the finish line. Along the way, castle rooms will be moving to different places. This can be either a help or a hindrance. The first person to make it to the finish line will be declared the winner.
To begin, each player will take a character piece, choosing from Princess Sofia, Princess Amber, Prince James or Clover the rabbit. The 4 double sided room tiles will be randomly placed into the board. Play now begins.
On a player’s turn, they will spin the spinner to move. Each spin will give one of 4 different results; a color, a tile, 4 tiles, or Sofia’s amulet. If the spinner lands on a color, the player will move forward to the appropriate color. For example, if blue is landed on, the player will move ahead to the closest blue spot. If the spinner lands on the tile space, you will flip all 4 tiles to the opposite side and place them back into the board. If the spinner lands on the 4 tiles spot, the player must take out all 4 tiles and mix them up before placing them randomly back into the board. The last space the spinner can land on is the amulet spot. If this is landed on, the player moves ahead to the nearest amulet space. Some amulet spaces will move you into one of the 4 room tiles. These tiles will move you ahead or backwards depending on which room is entered. For example, the room with the Queen will move you ahead, while the room with the staircase will move you back. This continues back and forth until one player makes it to the finish space. That player is the winner.
There are several really neat pieces to this game. First off the board is really sturdy and colorful. The tiles fit in perfectly and all of them have great glossy artwork. The board resembles the castle. Each tile is a different room in the castle. The player tokens are really cute. My daughter loves playing Princess Sofia. Of course, what little girl doesn’t love playing Sofia. These pieces are really nice as well with the same glossy artwork. The spinner is very high quality and very sturdy. To be able to take all the wear and tear that young kids will put on the game, it has to be. All in all, the components are really great for this style of game.

The rulebook isn’t very big for this game. It’s mainly just a glossy sheet of paper. It’s really simple to read and understand. There is some really cute artwork on it. Everything is explained properly so there’s no confusion. It does everything you need it to. You won’t need it more than once though as that’s just how simple the game is.

The game is really a lot of fun. My daughter loves playing it. She loves Sofia the First and this game is great for letting her be that character. The game has a bit of a Candyland meets Chutes and Ladders feel to it. Like the ideas from both games were smashed together and this game was the results. Whatever the process was, this game is a really cute game that even I enjoy playing. I usually end up playing Clover, just because. I like how simple everything is to remember. Of course the first time you play through you will probably be looking back to see what the tile icons mean. That’s when you realize that it’s simple to understand once you really look at the icons on the spinner. When we play it, it seems there is a lot of tile swapping. I guess we’re just lucky. In any case, this is a really cute game that my daughter really loves.

Sofia the First Surprise Slides is a light children’s game of spin and move. It’s really a cute game that doesn’t take a long time to play. Young girls will LOVE this game. My daughter loves the show so this one is right up her alley. I see where this game can help kids learn their colors and matching really well. Like i said before, parents of little girls will definitely want to pick this one up. I understand there is even a Mickey Mouse version of Surprise Slides. That means that the boys won’t be left out if they’re not into Sofia. I definitely recommend this game. My daughter really loves it and I enjoy playing it with her. It’s a great alternative to Chutes and Ladders or Candyland.
